Frederick at the Kitchen Sink

I don't remember how I discovered that Frederick loves to drink hot water, but it's a daily treat now.

I carry him over to the tap and warm up the water. "What is it?" he asks, using his "sweet" voice. He always asks that when he sees a treat coming his way.

Then he drinks and drinks. Then I carry him back to the cage with a burp cloth under his dripping chin.

For the record, the water is not hot enough to burn, so no one should lose sleep.

Frederick is so very charming. Do you think perhaps he knows the hot water is as close as he can get to a proper cup of tea?

He is such a lovely bird. It's funny that you put up a post about a neat thing your pet does.
I have a post about our milk goat Mamie and how she dances with my daughter. It is so funny.
Thanks for your lovely blog.

I was wondering, how well does it work to have a bird *and* a cat for pets? I've considered getting a bird but since we have a cat and several dogs, I was worried the bird might prove to be too tempting for them.

We had a kitty who loved to drink hot bath water. Soon I had to fix him a bowl every time I ran a bath!

I love hot tea with milk first thing. I think it's only fair that a bird should enjoy his hot water of a morning. Delightful.

charming : )

Quite independent of knowledge about Frederick, my daughter wants an African Gray (after reading a report about animal heroes she was charmed by their intelligence).

Upon researching, we learned they can live to 45 years and many owners must figure them into their estate planning.

She is now looking at ferrets.

Everytime I read about Frederick I think it would be neat to have a bird. And I am generally uninterested in them! I think it is because he is both handsome and eloquent!

Love seeing pictures of Frederick. He's so beautiful.

Ah, maybe he's cold and needs a warm drink? Does he like hot water in the summer as well? Too cute! Sew him a tiny bib.

I fell in love with Parrots on our honeymoon. We were in Hawaii and a man would let you take a picture with the birds for $3. We didn't take a picutre but stopped to look. One of the birds said, "Hello, Ma'am."

Oh, he's such a beautiful birdie! I love that he asks what it is, lol! Maybe someday you can get a video of him talking :)

And the disclaimer you added at the end was too funny, like I'm sure you'd hurt your own beloved bird by making the water too hot (but someone always needs to "be helpful" don't they? lol!)

Frederick is resorting to type -- after all his ancestors came from the African rainforest. :)

He's so intelligent! I had no idea that parrots could be so intelligent until Frederick.

My goodness, how funny is that!! That's adorable that he says "What Is it?" when he's getting a treat. My grandparents have birds (a parakeet and a parrot of some kind) and while they don't "talk" exactly, you can tell their "tweeting" takes a new direction. Their new parakeet can cheep his name already. "Beebee". :-)
